What to Bring to Treatment

If you have decided to enter treatment at Pocono, we look forward to seeing you! Below is a list of items to bring, as well as items to leave at home. Call us with any questions.

Items to Bring to Treatment

  • List and phone numbers of current treatment providers, including counselors, psychologists, psychiatrists and family doctor.
  • Names, addresses and phone numbers of everyone else you would like to have involved in your treatment process
  • List of medications, dosages and a 30 day supply of all medications in their original bottles
  • Current health insurance card and pharmacy benefit card with corresponding contact information
  • All Medical records, especially those pertaining to your drug and alcohol dependency history
  • Records from recent detox program(s)
  • A credit card, cashiers check or personal check for the full admission fee per our agreement
  • Drivers license, passport or photo I.D.
  • Enough appropriate casual/comfortable clothing and underwear for seven days (there’s no need to bring more than that as we have laundry facilities)
  • Appropriately fitted jeans and or shorts, t-shirts, workout attire (gym attire), comfortable shoes and sneakers for the gym and outside.
  • Sleepwear is mandatory (P.J.’S, sweatpants, shorts, t-shirts)
  • Shower Shoes
  • Hygiene Products (soap, soap dish, toothbrush, toothpaste, comb, brush, razor, deodorant, shampoo, conditioner)
  • If you smoke you must bring sealed packaged cartons
  • Linens are provided, however, you may bring your own pillow, and/or blanket if you wish to
  • Sunblock/ “Pump-Style” Bug Spray

Please note: You will be living in a Therapeutic Community and must always be appropriately dressed. Dress very conservatively as inappropriate clothing will be stored away for the duration of your stay. Also, please be sure to pack enough items to support your length of stay (i.e. – toiletries, cigarettes, etc.). Access to outside stores and shopping will not be permitted, however, a supply of some toiletries and supplies will be available at the store for purchase throughout your stay.

Items to Leave at Home

  • Cameras, cell phones, radios, televisions, CD/DVD players, lap top computers, electronic games
  • Craft/hobby items
  • Sporting equipment
  • Business or school work
  • Books or magazines
  • Straight edge razors
  • Aerosol cans of any kind
  • Any items containing alcohol, e.g. mouthwash, hand sanitizer
  • Weapons or weapon-like objects of any kind
  • Magic markers/pens
  • Butane lighters
  • Lighter fluid
  • Over-the-counter medication
  • Chewing gum, snuff, cigars, pipes
  • Cologne/perfumes/nail polish
  • Clothing with morbid or gothic or satanic themes, drug & alcohol related themes, tavern names, gang names, violent themes, racial slurs or profanity
  • Leather pants or skirts
  • Torn shirts, shorts or jeans
  • Clothing including self-made graffiti or slogans
  • Muscle t-shirts, tank tops, spaghetti strap shirts or tube tops
  • Bandannas or any gang related symbols
  • Skin tight clothing of any type
  • Expensive Jewelry: Patients can wear a watch, one ring, a necklace. In addition, female patients can wear a set of earrings and a wrist bracelet. No gages or oversized hoop earrings. No materials made of hemp.

Articles withheld from patients are either placed in patient suitcases (which are locked up) and kept there until discharge, OR preferably taken home by family members. In addition, objects identified as drug paraphernalia will either be taken from the facility by a family member or disposed of by staff with the patient’s oral consent.

The following items will be stored and their use monitored by our medical staff in an effort to encourage private, safe, appropriate and consistent use of necessary items:

  • Insulin syringes
  • Prescribed medications
  • Nasal sprays
  • Bronchial inhalers
  • Astringents
  • Foot or other powders
  • Liquid and/or cream preparations
